African Peanut Stew is a cherished dish across various regions of Africa, celebrated for its comforting and hearty qualities. With its creamy consistency and rich, nutty flavor, this stew has earned its place as a favorite among African stews. The beauty of African Peanut Stew lies not only in its taste but also in its simplicity—making it an accessible dish for both seasoned cooks and beginners alike. Whether served with fluffy rice, tender plantains, or even fufu, this stew is a versatile addition to any meal, offering a satisfying and nourishing experience.
The cornerstone of this delicious stew is peanut paste, which imparts its signature creaminess and depth of flavor. When choosing peanut paste, it’s important to select one that is made purely from peanuts, with no added sugar, salt, or preservatives. This ensures that the natural, rich taste of the peanuts shines through in the stew. For those who enjoy a more hands-on approach, making your peanut paste at home is an easy and rewarding process. Simply roast raw peanuts over low heat until they are golden and fragrant, then allow them to cool before grinding them into a smooth paste. This homemade peanut paste adds an extra layer of authenticity and freshness to the dish.
Whether you choose store-bought or homemade peanut paste, the result is a stew that is both comforting and flavorful, capturing the essence of traditional African cuisine in every bite.
How to cook this African Peanut Stew?
I have used chicken thighs to cook this stew, you can use another kind of meat or fish if you prefer. I prefer roasting the chicken to avoid fat. This stew can also be made without added oil since peanuts contain oil. I have used a tiny portion of oil here.
